INŻYNIERIA MATERIAŁOWA, ISSN: 0208-6247, Vol.163, No.3, pp.134-137, 2008Streszczenie: In present paper the aspects of complex nitriding of titanium alloys by two methods (thermodiffusion saturation and implantation with nitrogen) were examined. Before implantation both thin oxynitride and thick nitride layers have been formed on the Ti-6A1-4V alloy surface (Fig.l). It was shown that nitrogen implantation allows to modify the coatings. Qualitative and quantitative character of changes is determined by the structural and phase state of titanium surface layer achieved previously. It was investigated that nitrogen implantation improves the surface microhardness both nitride and oxynitride coatings (Fig. 5, 6). Our results reveal that the surface hardening without losses of its quality can be achieved by the implantation of nitrogen in oxynitride layer.
