40th Danubia-Adria Symposium on Advances in Experimental Mechanics (DAS 2024) was held in Gdańsk, Poland on September 24 - 27, 2024. The organizers of the conference were prof. Zbigniew L. Kowalewski (Chairman of the Conference) and dr hab. Mateusz Kopeć (Scientific Secretary) from the Department of Experimental Mechanics. The Organizing Committee also included prof. Paweł Pyrzanowski (Vice Chairman of the Conference) and M.Sc. Katarzyna Pytka, dr. Dariusz Rudnik, dr. Jacek Widłaszewski and prof. Wiktoria Wojnicz.
Danubia-Adria Symposia have a long tradition and are organized under the auspices of the Danubia-Adria Society (DAS) founded in 1983. The events bring together internationally recognized experts and young researchers in an effort to exchange ideas in different topics having the common link „Experimental Mechanics“. The Symposia act also as a platform for establishing connections between various research teams that are trying to build and develop future scientific collaboration.
DAS 2024 in Gdańsk was organized by the Danubia-Adria Society, the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Gdańsk University of Technology, with assistance of the Congress Bureau JORDAN Group. The meeting was focused on experimental and measuring techniques for thorough study of the mechanical properties of different materials, engineering structures and systems which are necessary to create the physical bases and provide verification of analytical or numerical methods in engineering design.
The 40th DAS included 102 extended abstracts that were accepted for presentation. The conference was prepared thanks to the great effort of the Organizing Committee members and the support of public institutions and sponsoring companies. The program of the conference included 1 Plenary Lecture, 26 Keynote Lectures and 72 contributed poster presentations. Danubia-Adria Symposium have maintained throughout the last 40 years high scientific standards and served as a forum for the exchange of new ideas and research information. A considerable number of participants from different countries delivered here fascinating lectures not a single time and certainly remember the period when they came for the first time as young, beginning researchers, while at the current conference edition they were presented general or keynote lectures as eminent scientists. It was also a great satisfaction to see again old friends with whom we shared our ideas and enthusiasm for Experimental Mechanics as well as to meet the young generation of researchers working in emerging fields and contributing new important results.
During the meeting of the Scientific Committee of the conference, prof Zbigniew Kowalewski was elected president of the Danubia Adria Society in a unanimous vote. More information about the 40th DAS 2024 conference can be found here: https://das2024.pl/en.
The next 41th edition of the Danubia-Adria Symposium will take place in Kragujevac, Serbia, in September, 2025.
