On May 27, 2023, the Institute took part in the 26th Science Picnic of Polish Radio and the Copernicus Science Center. The 26th Science Picnic took place at the “PGE Narodowy” Stadium in Warsaw. The picnic is the largest open-air event in Europe to promote science. Each year it attracts crowds of visitors to Warsaw [recently 50,000 visitors according to the Organizers]. The theme of the 26th Science Picnic was "SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTIONS".
At numerous exhibition stands the visitors could learn interesting facts and observe fascinating effects from the area of engineering and technical sciences, medicine, natural sciences and others.
The Institute presented several experiments, practically all of them related to the Picnic topic.
- we showed the properties of shape memory alloys and polymers and talked how the invention of these materials changed everyday life,
- we presented how a shape memory alloy (hot water) engine works,
- we showed methods of 3D printing from liquids and powders,
- we presented the structure of various molecules that have revolutionized the world.
