The first Polish Materials Engineering Day was held at IPPT PAN, during which young scientists from our Institute popularized materials science among our visitors.
“The future lies in materials” was the event's motto
All thematic meetings were under the patronage of the Polskie Towarzystwo Materiałoznawcze (Polish Materials Science Society). The cooperation between 15 scientific units from around Poland resulted in great success. Altogether, there were 13 universities and 2 research institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences: the IPPT PAN from Warsaw and the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science in Cracow. With no age limitations for the visitors, IPPT PAN prepared shows, experiments, and presentations. We aimed to familiarize a greater public, including younger generations, with the domain of materials engineering. And thus, IPPT PAN welcomed parents with children who attend primary and high schools. After short inductions, our guests visited the Institute’s laboratories, where they could either watch experiments or assist in performing them or doing material tests. Our employees answered every question and explained every phenomenon related to materials science. They showed visitors how to research and develop materials and how to use materials in real life and many branches of industry. The event was coordinated by dr inż. Mateusz Kopeć from the Department of Experimental Mechanics, IPPT PAN. Every visitor left with the diploma of participation in the 2023 Polish Materials Engineering Day.
