On September 25-26, 2019 Institute of Fundamental Technological Research Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN) held the 4th international meeting in the frame of the research project within V4-Korea Joint Research Program RADCON.

The international program joint research on materials science and presented the effects of chemical composition of minerals, cement and cement-based composites on their long-term performance in irradiated environment.

Representatives of all research centres and universities implementing the RADCON project were present at the meeting: Yonsei University-Republic of Korea; Czech Technical University-Czech Republic; Centre for Energy Research (former part of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences)-Hungary; Slovak Academy of Sciences-Slovak Republic and IPPT PAN.

Two days of discussions resulted in presenting topics concerning the radiation-induced damage to cement-based materials:

  • Characterization of the interfacial transition zone fracture properties: model and experiment.
  • Numerical simulation of the multi-component hydration model.
  • Irradiation calculation of concrete, FISPACT-II model.
  • Neutron irradiation possibilities at the Budapest Research Reactor: Flux model at the irradiation channel.
  • Chemical composition of concrete constituents: Neutron Activation Analysis, Prompt Gamma-ray Neutron Activation Analysis.
  • Voids characterization in air entrained concrete using: neutron imaging, X-ray, computed tomography image analysis, optical microscopy and mercury intrusion porosimetry.
  • Low-activation concrete: preliminary results and future plans.
  • Thermal and mechanical properties of heavyweight concrete.

The following research team from IPPT PAN was engaged: prof. M.A. Glinicki, D. Jóźwiak-Niedźwiedzka, PhD., DSc.; M. Dąbrowski, PhD.; K. Bogusz, MSc.; A. Antolik, MSc.; K. Dziedzic, MSc., M. Sobczak (Division of Strain Fields, Department of Experimental Mechanics at IPPT PAN).
